Weight loss tip: What to do on hot summer days
Though I’ve dealt with weight loss in both winter and summer, I think it’s a wee bit easier in summer, and I thought I’d share this as a weight loss tip for you:
Winter food is heavier, warmer. We crave (in the healthy sense of the word) food that’s heartier because it warms us up. And certainly not all warm food puts weight on you — I eat warm meals all the time, for example, and it doesn’t affect my weight negatively in the slightest as long as I stick to the healthy whole foods that are best for our bodies — like greens, beans, veggies and fruit.
But in the heat of summer, on days like today, it’s barely even a temptation to eat at all, much less to eat anything heavy or potentially unhealthy. I’m here typing away in shorts and a light t-shirt, sipping a little water now and then. And all I can think about at mealtimes is fresh fruit, smoothies, salads … Actually, that’s pretty much it because everything else just seems like too much. I think I’d break a sweat just thinking about making anything warm on a day like today.
My simple weight loss tip for you today is to go with your desire to eat cool, light fare on hot summer days. Try out one of the smoothie recipes here on the site. Or consider making a big salad for dinner topped with tahini dressing (my personal, all-time favorite). Eating this way is really the best weight loss tip there is — whole foods, and plant-based foods at that, are the healthiest, best for you foods, and they help you achieve the weight loss you want and keep it off too.
